CEO Tal J Zlotnitsky on the Vital Need to Save Newspapers Learn about the need to save newspapers and the effects on our society. iControl Marketing Jul 28, 2020 ROCKVILLE, MD -- July 28, 2020, iControl President & CEO, Tal J Zlotnitsky, published a post today in Medium, encouraging Congress and state legislative bodies to take up legislation intended to save local newspapers from demise. Zlotnitsky, who cut his teeth as an executive and later CEO in the newspaper & magazine distributorship founded by his father, Michael, strongly believes "democracy depends in some significant measure on the general public’s access to information," and that newspapers represent a "vital public good on par with charity." "We have reached — and in many ways, surpassed — a crisis point, where failure to act could lead to a catastrophic and irreversible damage to our democracy, at the worst possible time," Zlotnitsky wrote in his blog post, "Thousands of American newspapers have shuttered and others are tethering on the edge. In addition to the damage to our democracy, tens of thousands of jobs have been lost, and tens of thousands more are at stake. The time to act is now. While there may be other options, it is my view that only bold legislative action has a chance to materially change the trajectory of local newspapers in a sustainable manner."
